About

Zach Shephard lives in Washington state, where he spends much of his time coming up with science fiction, fantasy and horror stories.  He takes his work very seriously, and almost never changes perspectives when I’m writing about myself.

Zach loves board games, candy and Roger Zelazny.  He also has an impressive awards shelf that was custom-built to hold a dozen Hugos and Nebulas.  The shelf is empty.

Zach would like to thank you for checking out his site.  He hopes you’ll come back regularly to see if anything exciting has happened in his life, because you never know when he’ll sell a new story or find another Corn Flake that looks like a tractor ran over Gandalf’s face.

  1. I just finished reading “Tunnel Vision” and had to let you know how much I liked it. I gave it one of my very very rare 7 rocket dragons. You made me want to know each and every story of the others.

Thank you for a delightful read!

  2. Thanks, Susan! I’m glad you liked it–I will cherish each and every one of these 7 Rocket Dragons. (Even the one with the stubby wings and busted engines, who can only fly in circles.)

  3. Hello Zach,

I just read and really enjoyed Hornet’s Sting. I thought the premise and execution were first rate. I look forward to reading more of your work.

    Best,

  5. Hi, Zach,
I am sharing “The Black Clover Equation” with my short fiction writing students today for our flash fiction unit. I enjoyed the creativity and humor. Would love to connect with you and talk writing.

  7. I wandered into FlashOnLine humor department (yeah, I’m American and spell humor wrong) and read The Black Clover Equation. I was floored! Real funny is hard to find and that Flowers for Algernon style of innocent mayhem was great! I’ll be looking for more now. Also kudos to your posts!

  8. Reserved all the UFO Anthologies from my library a few weeks ago. So far, you and some guy named Neil are my favorites.

Can I write snot elemental fanfic?

    -Kit Gadgitar

    • Whoa–thanks, Kit! Glad to hear you’ve liked my stories. (Or, at least, the one I sneezed into volume 6 of the UFO series.) I hope your library has volume 9, because that’s the one that has my personal-favorite of my UFO stories!

And yes, I’m a fan of that Neil guy too. During one of his book tours I got to shake his hand, and haven’t washed it since. (Nor any other part of my body, just to be safe.)

As far as the snot goes, I encourage anyone to write as many snot stories as they can. In fact, the whole inspiration for “Tyler the Snot Elemental Scours the Newspaper, Searching for Change” was that, at some point in my weird and directionless life, I realized the past 3 stories I’d sold had all contained the word “snot.” I figured that meant I’d found my niche, so I capitalized on it.

Once again: glad you enjoyed! Thanks for commenting. (And sorry for responding so late; I don’t check my site nearly as often as I should, and I didn’t see your comment until six months after it was posted. Oops.)
